The family of extruded cereal snacks contains two main families of products:
Direct extruded foods, often corn-based, which represent the majority of this market.
Corn grits or cornmeal are extruded to produce different shapes and textures. This enables rounded or longer shapes to be made, as well as more complex "animal" or "twist" shapes. The texture of direct extruded foods is light and melt-in-the-mouth and the densities are low, enabling packets to be well filled.
These segments are dynamic. The main principles are still pleasure (taste, colour, shape), healthiness, authenticity and practicality.
